While recovering from illness last week, couch bound and low energy, I had an epiphany moment for a new creative challenge. A goal to create new characters and continue developing my imagination and creativity while developing makeup, costume, photography, and editing skills I use in my job. Twelve months for twelve looks I create for each mermaid tail I receive as a Fin Fun Ambassador.
I serendipitously discovered the joy of gliding through the water in a tail, transforming into a magical mermaid. Now, I am happily living my mermaid aerial dancer dreams, performing as a flying and swimming mermaid and enjoying my newest mermaid role as Midwest Mermaid Ambassador for Fin Fun Mermaid Tails. Here’s the story of how I became a flying mermaid and a Fin Fun Ambassador.
Transforming into a new character is an artistic journey. One of the elements of transforming is creating the perfect costume to further develop the character. Costuming is an involved process with many steps and skills intertwined together. So for those interested in creating characters through costuming, I give you a play by play in the creation of the Nyxies.
My first ever blog post. What first came to mind was the moment I first realized I am a “REAL” aerialist. A few years ago two friends invited me to lunch so that they could ask me questions.
“How did you do it? How did you become a real aerialist?”
I just stared at them for a moment in confusion. “REAL aerialist?” What could they mean by that? By the end of the conversation I realized though, I am in fact a real aerialist.
For anyone curious, or hoping to make their way to this same odd profession, or just to understand how I got here. This is the advice that surfaced during our conversation.
